Sheep Canyon Railroad Trestle site, 7 miles north of Edgemont, South Dakota on the Mickelson Trail
Sheep Canyon, where crossed, is 700 feet long by 126 feet deep. In 1890 the above trestle was built for the Burlington line. The bridge was considered rickety, and expensive to upkeep, so Burlington decided to fill the canyon with dirt instead. It took 22,000 car loads to fill.
